Twins Subdue Chicago, 5-3
|
With center fielder Darin Erstad leading the charge, the Minnesota Twins defeated the Chicago Cubs, 5-3, at Metrodome. Erstad, who is tied for 6th in the FL in stolen bases with 37, went 3 for 4 with a home run and 2 singles, while scoring 3 times. Rob Dibble notched his 11th save in 15 chances. The Twins bumped their record to 69-67 with this latest triumph.
Larry Walker took LaTroy Hawkins deep with one out in the bottom of the sixth. On a 2-1 changeup, Walker drilled a solo home run to right-center. It was his 24th home run of the season and put Minnesota on top, 4-3.
"If it's down the middle," said Erstad, "you might as well hit it."
