|
The Kansas City Royals dealt the Minnesota Twins a 6-5 loss at Royals Stadium. Andruw Jones was the star on offense. He was 3 for 4 with a home run and a double. The winner was Rick Reed, who threw 115 pitches over 6.2 innings. The right-hander was charged with 4 runs on 7 hits. Kansas City is now 22-5.
Reggie L. Sanders had a big run-scoring single for the Royals in the bottom of the sixth inning. With Kansas City leading 5-4 and runners on 2nd and 3rd, he got a curveball from Bob Ayrault and stroked the single to right. It was his 8th hit of the season, and more importantly, it put the Royals ahead, 6-4.
"If we keep winning the close games," Jones said, "we'll be in good shape at the end."
