Buzz Fall Short at New Orleans
Benefiting from Randy Velarde's productive game, the New Orleans Brass downed the Salt Lake City Buzz, 8-7. Velarde was 4 for 4 with a home run, 3 singles, and a walk. He scored 2 times for the Brass. New Orleans reliever Jeff Tam picked up the win, upping his record to 2-5. Mark Acre absorbed the loss. New Orleans is second in the Pacific Central with a record of 70-48.

The Brass beat the Buzz in part due to timely hitting. Case in point: the two-out double Jeff Frye produced in the bottom of the ninth. Batting against Salt Lake City pitcher Donnie Elliott, Frye gave his team a 8-7 lead when he hit a walk-off run-scoring double.

"I just try to see the ball and put a good swing on it," said Velarde.
