Red Sox Take Tight Tilt, 4-3
|
With center fielder Oddibe McDowell leading the charge, the Boston Red Sox defeated the Florida Marlins, 4-3, at Fenway Park. McDowell, who finished 4th in the FL in triples with 7 in 1993, was 2-2 with 2 singles and 2 walks. Roger Salkeld went 6.1 innings for Boston to pick up the win. The right-hander was charged with 3 earned runs. He scattered 9 hits, while walking 1 and striking out 2. His record improves to 5-1. Losses have been rare for the Marlins, who are now 18-8.
Boston grabbed control in the bottom of the sixth. With two out and runners on 1st and 2nd, Raul Casanova delivered a run-scoring single, to make it 4-3 in favor of the Red Sox.
"If we play like this, we can win a lot of games," McDowell told the Boston Times.
