Otters Hammered by DeRosa, Drop Game 1 to Whalers
|
The Hartford Whalers started the Division Series in style today, winning on the road against the Milwaukee Otters at Stags Ballpark by a score of 8-5 to take an early 1-0 lead in the best-of-5 series. Whalers left fielder Mark DeRosa was named player of the game after he went 3 for 5 with a home run, 2 doubles, and a walk, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 4.
DeRosa had a consequential at-bat in the top of the fourth for the Whalers. Coming up with runners on 1st and 2nd and Hartford trailing 3-2, he hit a 3-run home run.
"We're happy," DeRosa told reporters after the win. "When you're in the playoffs, you've got to treat every game like it could be your last."
The next game is scheduled for tomorrow at Stags Ballpark in Milwaukee. The scheduled starters for the game are Marvin Freeman for the Hartford Whalers and Esteban Loaiza for the the Milwaukee Otters.
