Cardinals Lose to Knights, 9-5
|
The Charlotte Knights racked up a win at Busch Stadium, bumping off the St. Louis Cardinals, 9-5. Tony Saunders, who started for Charlotte, pitched effectively for his team. Saunders picked up the win for Charlotte, going 6 innings. He gave up 3 runs on 6 hits. He now sports a record of 4-1. The Cardinals fall to 11-16 and continue their lackluster start in 1998.
Barry Bonds was a prime contributor to the Charlotte win. He went 2-4 with a home run and a walk, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. In the top of the second with two out, the reigning Most Valuable Player winner hit a 2-run home run. It made the score 3-0, in favor of the Knights.
"The boys were really swinging the bats today," winning manager Tyler Vuxta said.
