Phillies Get Close Win Over Spiders
|
Ray Lankford had a hand in Philadelphia defeating Cleveland by the score of 8-6. Lankford went 3 for 5 at the plate, scoring 3 times and driving in 1 runs. Jose Mesa got credit for the win, improving to 1-0. He allowed no runs on no hits in 2 innings. German Jimenez, summoned from the bullpen, notched his 3rd save.
Lankford had a game-changing double in the top of the ninth. On a first pitch curveball from Mike Draper, he banged a run-scoring double to right, giving the Phillies a 6-5 lead. It was the 6th double of the year for Lankford.
"We swung the bats good throughout the lineup," said Philadelphia skipper Tigerr Wolfe.
The Spiders, now 8-19, continue their slow start.
