The Cincinnati Reds topped the Orlando Devil Rays by the score of 5-3, with the biggest share of the credit going to designated hitter Bobby Higginson. Higginson was 2-3 with 2 home runs and a walk for the Reds on the day. Brad Radke picked up the win, improving his season record to 4-0. He struck out 5 in 8 innings. Arthur Rhodes got credit for the save for Cincinnati. It was his 5th of the year.

Higginson had a key at-bat for Cincinnati early in the game. With the bases empty, he hit a solo home run. It was his 12th home run of the season and gave Cincinnati an early 1-0 lead.

"We put it together today and came out with the win," Higginson said in postgame remarks. "That's the main thing."

The Devil Rays drop to 12-16 and continue their inconsistent start to the 1998 season.
