Cubs Prevail, 9-7, Over Milwaukee
|
Despite a great performance by Milwaukee second baseman Mark Loretta, the Chicago Cubs defeated the Creams by the score of 9-7 at Wrigley Field. Loretta was 3-4 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk. He scored 2 times and drove in 3. The Creams fall to 11-18 and continue their unimpressive start to the 1998 season.
Chicago catcher George E Williams had a key at-bat for the Cubs in the bottom of the seventh inning. Facing Milwaukee pitcher Wes Gardner, Williams hit a run-scoring single to make the score 8-7, Chicago. For the day, he went 2-4 with 2 singles. He drove in 2 runs.
In postgame comments to the Chicago Gazette, Williams said, "If the effort is there, the wins will come."
