In a low-scoring tilt between the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Oakland Athletics, Ramiro Mendoza was the difference-maker. The Los Angeles right-hander earned player of the game honors in the 3-1 win. Los Angeles reliever Rudy Seanez picked up the win, upping his record to 1-0. Jamie Moyer took the loss. The Athletics fall to 9-19 and continue their lackluster start in 1998.
With runs few and far between, the Dodgers had to seize their opportunities when they came. One of the most important chances for Los Angeles came in the top of the seventh inning, when shortstop Homer Bush delivered a 3-run home run. The home run was hit off Toby Borland and made the score 3-1, Dodgers. Bush went 1 for 3 with a home run, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once.
"It was a solid team effort," said Bush after the game.
