Victory Pushes Twins Record to 15-15
|
The Minnesota Twins got a magnificent performance from pitcher Darren Oliver, who stifled the Philadelphia offense en route to a 3-1 Twins win at Yankee Stadium. Minnesota reliever John Rocker picked up the win, upping his record to 3-2. Chris Carpenter took the loss. Trevor Hoffman finished the game for Minnesota and earned his 3rd save.
Minnesota took a 2-1 lead on Jerome Walton's 1st home run of the season. The solo home run came off Philadelphia pitcher Chris Carpenter in the top of the seventh.
In postgame comments to the Minnesota Daily, Oliver said, "If the effort is there, the wins will come."
The Phillies fall to 15-16 and continue their uneasy start to the 1998 season.
