Spiders Turn Back Twins, 6-4
|
Minnesota first baseman Frank Thomas was sensational. He went 2-4 with a home run. He drove in 2 runs and scored once, but it wasn't enough to rally his team to a win. Cleveland beat the Twins, 6-4. Thomas was named the player of the game despite the loss. Carlos Perez went 6.1 innings for Cleveland to pick up the win. The left-hander was charged with 4 earned runs. He scattered 8 hits, while walking 0 and striking out 4. His record improves to 3-2. Steve Karsay recorded the save for Cleveland, his 2nd of the season.
Cleveland used the bat of Kevin Mitchell to get the win. The third baseman hammered a 2-run home run in the top of the fifth inning to put the Spiders ahead, 5-3. It was his lone hit in 5 at-bats, but it did its damage.
"I'm proud of the boys for pulling through," said Spiders manager . "The wins don't come easy for this team, but everyone's got an extra jump in their step after a game like this."
Even with the win, the Spiders have a dismal 11-23 record.
