Marlins Score Late to Upend Spiders, 5-4
|
Florida Marlins starter Rene Arocha pitched effectively against the Cleveland Spiders at League Park. The right-hander spearheaded his team's 5-4 win. In 8 innings, Arocha surrendered 7 hits, while striking out 6 and walking 1. He allowed 3 runs. Bryan Harvey was credited with the save for Florida, his 6th of the season.
Florida relied on the hitting of Craig Counsell to pick up the win. The shortstop clubbed a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Marlins on top, 4-3. For the game, Counsell had 1 home run and 2 singles in 5 at-bats.
"I found a nice groove out there," said Arocha.
Florida is now 23-12, 5½ games up in the Federal League East Division.
