Both teams had their chances, but the Cincinnati Reds eventually prevailed at Riverfront Stadium.

The Cincinnati Reds knocked off the Philadelphia Phillies, 9-8, at Riverfront Stadium. Javy Lopez, who captured player of the game honors, was a big reason Cincinnati won. The catcher was 2-2 with a double and a walk, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. Arthur Rhodes got the save, the 6th for him this season.

Bobby Higginson contributed an important at-bat in the bottom of the third. With the bases loaded, he hit a 2-run single. It was one at-bat that helped send Cincinnati to the win.

"We were able to get some things going offensively," said Lopez.
