Cubs Win at St. Louis, 5-4
|
Chicago designated hitter Carmelo Martinez had a 3-RBI performance, which helped his team grab a 5-4 win over the St. Louis Cardinals. The winner was Russ Springer in relief. His record improves to 2-2. Terry Mulholland took the loss. Alberto Reyes got the save, the 8th for him this season.
Martinez came through for the Cubs in the top of the fifth inning. With Chicago trailing 4-2, the designated hitter hit a 3-run home run. It made the score 5-4, Chicago.
"We had the game right there for the taking," said St. Louis manager Adam Rabel. "But we decided not to take it."
The Cubs improve their record to 14-23 with the win over St. Louis.
