New York right fielder Magglio Ordonez was sensational. He was 3-5 with a home run and 2 singles. He drove in 3 runs and scored once, but it wasn't enough to rally his team to a win. Washington beat the Mets, 6-4. Ordonez was named the player of the game despite the loss. New York, at 19-19, has lost 6 straight.

Ken Caminiti was the walk-off hero for Washington. With the game tied in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Senators first baseman hit a dramatic 2-run home run to send the teams home.

"We've hit a rough patch right now," said New York skipper Michael Kritikos.
