The St. Louis Cardinals beat the Milwaukee Creams, 5-4, at Milwaukee County Stadium. The Cardinals got a fine performance from third baseman Placido Polanco, who captured player of the game honors. He was 3-5 with a home run and a double. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2. Steve Chitren closed it out for his 6th save. After today's action, St. Louis sits at 20-19, while Milwaukee falls to 18-21.

Lance Blankenship provided some late-game drama. In the top of the eighth, with one out and a runner on 3rd, Blankenship hit a run-scoring single. It helped St. Louis take the lead and grab the win.

"It feels good to get this one," Blankenship told the St. Louis Daily News.
