Minnesota got a terrific game from first baseman Frank Thomas. It wasn't enough, though, to prevent the team from falling to Chicago, 6-4. Thomas was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He went 3-4 with a double, 2 singles, and a walk, while adding 2 RBI. Mike Dunne got the win, improving to 3-4. He worked 8 innings, giving up 4 runs on 11 hits, while striking out 4 and walking 4. Alberto Reyes finished the game for Chicago and earned his 9th save.

Chicago relied on the bat of Trot Nixon to get the win. The center fielder ripped a solo home run in the top of the third inning to put the Cubs ahead, 3-1. For the game, Nixon had 1 double and 1 home run in 5 at-bats.

"We'll enjoy this win," said Nixon. "But there's more we hope to accomplish."

At 15-24, Chicago is in last place in the Federal League Central Division.
