The Kansas City Royals and Charlotte Knights provided some drama at Comiskey Park.
The Charlotte Knights beat the Kansas City Royals, 5-4, at Comiskey Park. Charlotte shortstop Nomar Garciaparra earned player of the game honors with an outstanding performance. He was 2 for 3 with a home run, a double, and a walk. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2. Tim Burke earned the save, his 7th, for the Knights.
Tony Batista went 1-3 for Charlotte. The top prospect had a key at-bat in the bottom of the eighth. With one out and a runner on 3rd, he broke a 4-4 tie with a run-scoring sacrifice fly off Gregg Olson. It was his 20th RBI of the season.
"You've got to ride the highs and the lows in baseball in order to succeed," Batista told the Charlotte Bulletin. "Right now I'm feeling good, but that don't mean squat for tomorrow."
The Knights have an impressive 27-14 record.
