Mets Lose to Padres, 7-4
|
New York left fielder Cliff Floyd had a terrific game, but it still wasn't enough to get his team a win. Floyd went 3-5 with a home run and 2 doubles, while scoring 2 times and driving in 2, even as San Diego beat the Mets, 7-4. Floyd was named the player of the game despite the loss. Pete Schourek, the winner, improved to 2-3. He held New York to 3 earned runs on 5 hits over 6.1 innings, while racking up 7 strikeouts. San Diego currently is in second place in the United League West Division at 24-20.
Tim Naehring, who is a two-time Gold Glove winner, helped out the San Diego cause in the top of the second inning with a run-scoring ground out. For the game, the shortstop went 1-4 with a home run, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once.
"We'll pop the top on a cold one and get back to work tomorrow," Naehring said.
