Cubs Top Spiders in Extras

Extra innings were needed to determine a winner at League Park.
Starting pitcher LaTroy Hawkins pitched well enough to help the Chicago Cubs beat the Cleveland Spiders by the score of 6-3. Chicago reliever Julian Tavarez was the winner. His record is now 1-0. Jose Jimenez took the loss. Alberto Reyes earned the save for Chicago, his 10th of the year.
It could have been a different outcome for Chicago, had it not been for Trot Nixon, the former first round draft pick . Nixon contributed a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the top of the tenth inning to put Chicago up, 4-3.
"I like our resilience," said Hawkins.
Chicago goes to 16-29, Cleveland to 14-31.
