Cubs Subdue Cleveland, 5-3
|
Chicago Cubs starter Mike Hampton pitched a strong game against the Cleveland Spiders at League Park, leading the Cubs to a 5-3 win. Chicago now sits at 17-29, while Cleveland falls to 14-32.
Chicago relied on the bat of Jon Nunnally to get the win. The right fielder ripped a 2-run home run in the top of the first inning to put the Cubs ahead, 2-0. For the game, Nunnally had 1 double and 1 home run in 4 at-bats.
"I'm proud of the boys for pulling through," said Cubs manager Anthony Perez. "The wins don't come easy for this team, but everyone's got an extra jump in their step after a game like this."
