Cardinals Edge Marlins, 2-1
|
The Florida Marlins got a superb performance from pitcher Butch Henry. Still, it wasn't enough to beat St. Louis. The Cardinals won the game, 2-1. In spite of the loss, Henry was named the player of the game. He threw 6 innings of 5-hit ball. Mariano Rivera, summoned from the bullpen, notched his 4th save. St. Louis, at 22-25, sits in third place in the Federal League Central Division.
It could have been a different outcome for St. Louis, had it not been for Placido Polanco, the 22-year old second baseman . Polanco contributed a run-scoring single in the top of the second inning to put St. Louis up, 2-0.
"We were in it," said Florida manager Stephen Ginter. "We just didn't score enough runs."
