Padres Turn Back Senators, 8-6
|
The Washington Senators got a superb performance from catcher Jason Kendall, but the San Diego Padres still won the game, 8-6. Kendall was named the player of the game despite the loss. He was 2-3 with a home run, a walk, and was hit by a pitch, while scoring 3 times. The Padres bumped their record to 26-21 with this latest triumph.
The Padres beat the Senators with some clutch hitting. The double by Jeff Conine in the bottom of the first is a good example. With two down, Conine gave his team the lead, 2-1, when he came through with the big hit.
"Enjoyed this one," Conine told the San Diego Chronicle. "But it's back to work tomorrow."
