Takehiro Ishii of the New York Mets put on a pitching clinic today at Shea Stadium as he struck out 15 Colorado Rockies in a 4-0 victory. Ishii, who finished 3rd in the UL in wins with 18 in 1995, was simply magnificent as he held the Rockies to 2 hits. He walked 1.

"I felt okay at the beginning," Ishii said, "but eventually my screwball really started working. I also have to thank my catcher for calling a great game."

When asked about Ishii's performance, Mets manager Michael Kritikos shook his head and said, "Yeah, he was good out there today. He was dominating."
