Cubs Turn Back Philadelphia, 3-2
|
The Chicago Cubs got a rather unremarkable outing from starting pitcher LaTroy Hawkins, but it was good enough for the club to take a 3-2 decision over the Philadelphia Phillies. The win boosts the Cubs to 19-31. The loss puts the Phillies at 23-28.
It could have been a different outcome for Chicago, had it not been for Trot Nixon, the top prospect . Nixon contributed a run-scoring ground out in the top of the fifth inning to put Chicago up, 3-2.
"Winning the game is always the first objective," Hawkins said.
