Spiders Come Up Short at St. Louis
The St. Louis Cardinals defeated the Cleveland Spiders, 4-3, in Federal League action at Busch Stadium, with St. Louis pitcher Jay Tibbs named player of the game. The Cardinals improve their record to 24-29 with the win over Cleveland.

The Cardinals beat the Spiders with some clutch hitting. The home run by Preston Wilson in the bottom of the third is a good example. With two down, Wilson gave his team the lead, 4-3, when he came through with the big hit.

"We put it together today and came out with the win," Wilson said in postgame remarks. "That's the main thing."
