Cardinals Trip Royals, 7-6
The Kansas City Royals got a sterling performance from third baseman Quilvio Veras, but the Cardinals still prevailed, 7-6. Veras was named the player of the game in a losing cause. He went 2-2 with a home run and 2 walks, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. St. Louis is now 25-30.

The Cardinals got an important contribution from first baseman Brian S Giles, who in the top of the first stroked a full count sinker into left for a 2-run home run. It was his 17th home run of the season and put the Cardinals ahead, 2-0.

"I felt good up there," said Giles. "I saw the ball well."
