Red Sox Lose, 5-1, at Busch Stadium
|
The St. Louis Cardinals topped the Boston Red Sox, 5-1, in Federal League action at Busch Stadium. The player of the game was St. Louis pitcher Allan Anderson. The winning pitcher was Anderson, now 2-0. He tossed 7 innings of 5-hit ball, while walking 1 and fanning 4. Losses have been few and far between for the Red Sox so far this season. Their record drops to 4-2.
Lance Blankenship had a big run-scoring single for the Cardinals in the bottom of the seventh inning. With St. Louis leading 2-1 and a runner on 2nd, he got a sinker from Roger McDowell and stroked the single to right-center. It was his 4th hit of the season, and more importantly, it put the Cardinals ahead, 3-1.
"I thought we played a nice game," Anderson told the St. Louis Daily News. "Good pitching, timely hitting, it was all there."
