Royals Lose to Cardinals, 6-3
|
The St. Louis Cardinals picked up a win at Royals Stadium, knocking off the Kansas City Royals, 6-3. Starting pitcher Mark Portugal played a key role in the triumph. In 7 innings, Portugal surrendered 7 hits, while striking out 5 and walking 1. He allowed 2 runs. St. Louis, at 26-30, sits in 4th place in the Federal League Central Division.
It could have been a different outcome for St. Louis, had it not been for Lance Blankenship, the top prospect . Blankenship contributed a run-scoring double in the top of the third inning to put St. Louis up, 1-0.
"We'll enjoy this win," said Blankenship. "But there's more we hope to accomplish."
