Cardinals Get One-Run Win at Minnesota
The St. Louis Cardinals did just enough to sneak past the Minnesota Twins, 3-2, at Metrodome. St. Louis pitcher Miguel Batista earned player of the game honors. Batista, now 4-4, was the winner. In 7 innings, he gave up 4 hits, while striking out 7, walking 1, and allowing 1 earned run. Steve Chitren converted his 8th save in 11 tries.

Eric Karros provided some punch for the Cardinals. In the top of the seventh, with a runner on 2nd and St. Louis trailing 1-0, he lit into a slider from Pedro Astacio, sending it out of the park. The 2-run homer put the Cardinals up, 2-1.

"Baseball is about momentum," said Batista, "and we feel we've got it in our favor after that win."

The 4th-place Cardinals improved to 27-32.
