Cubs Take Nail-Biter Over Royals
|
Wrigley Field was rocking after an exciting Cubs win today.
The Cubs had to overcome a fine performance from Kansas City pitcher Rick Reed to grab a 4-3 win at Wrigley Field. Reed allowed 2 earned runs over 7 innings. The win was Russ Springer's in relief. His record improves to 3-2. Armando Benitez took the loss for Kansas City.
Trot Nixon, who is tied for 5th in the FL in triples with 3, chipped in for Chicago with a 2-run home run in the bottom of the tenth. For the game, the center fielder had 2 hits in 5 at-bats with 1 home run, 1 single, 1 run scored, and 3 runs batted in.
"This is a resilient bunch," said Chicago manager Anthony Perez.
Even with the win, the Cubs have a dismal 21-39 record.
