Extra-Inning Win by Cardinals over Twins
Cardinals first baseman Brian S Giles put his stamp on his team's 7-3 win over the Minnesota Twins. Giles was 4 for 6 with a home run and 3 singles, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once for St. Louis in the contest. St. Louis reliever Terry Mathews picked up the win to move to 1-0. Paul Spoljaric suffered the loss. The third-place Cardinals improved to 28-32.

It could have been a different outcome for St. Louis, had it not been for Lance Blankenship, the former first round draft pick . Blankenship contributed a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the top of the 12th inning to put St. Louis up, 4-3.

"Good win for us, tough loss for them," said Giles.
