Mets Fall to Gonzalez, Diamondbacks
The Arizona Diamondbacks bested the New York Mets, 11-6, at Shea Stadium. Luis Gonzalez was named player of the game. He went 3-4 with a home run, a double, and was hit by a pitch, while scoring 3 times and driving in 3. Arizona starter Floyd Youmans was credited with the win after throwing 97 pitches over 7 innings. His record now stands at 9-3. With the win, Arizona has a record of 34-27. New York falls to 35-25.

Momentum swung to the Diamondbacks in the top of the first, when Gonzalez, who finished 4th in the FL in doubles with 40 in 1995, hit a 2-run double. It propelled the Diamondbacks into the lead, 2-0.

"It was offense that won us the game," said winning manager Alen Maglajac.
