Cardinals Drop Spiders with Late Score
|
St. Louis Cardinals starter Andy Benes was in fine form against the Cleveland Spiders at League Park, leading his team to a 7-4 win. Steve Chitren notched his 10th save in 14 chances. St. Louis is now 32-33, while Cleveland is 24-41.
St. Louis used the bat of Stan Javier to get the win. The center fielder hammered a 2-run home run in the top of the eighth inning to put the Cardinals ahead, 4-2. It was his lone hit in 3 at-bats, but it did its damage.
"We'll savor this win," Javier told the St. Louis Daily News, "then get ready for the next game."
