Multi-HR Game for Valentin in 12-8 Win
The St. Louis Cardinals defeated the Cleveland Spiders, 12-8, in Federal League action at League Park. John Valentin received player of the game honors. The 7-year veteran went 2-4 with 2 home runs, while adding 7 RBI and scoring twice. St. Louis reliever Braden Looper picked up the win to move to 1-0. Jose Jimenez suffered the loss. St. Louis, at 33-33, sits in third place in the Federal League Central Division.

It could have been a different outcome for St. Louis, had it not been for Preston Wilson, the 23-year old center fielder . Wilson contributed a run-scoring single in the top of the eighth inning to put St. Louis up, 8-6.

"We put it together today and came out with the win," Wilson said in postgame remarks. "That's the main thing."
