Spiders Beat Visiting Reds, 4-3
|
The Spiders faced a stiff challenge from Cincinnati pitcher Joey Hamilton, but persevered to claim a win at League Park. The final score was 4-3. Hamilton went 8 innings and allowed 3 earned runs. Bob Sebra got the win, improving to 3-5. He held the Reds to 2 earned runs on 6 hits over 6 innings, while striking out 3 and walking 7. Steve Karsay notched his 11th save in 15 chances.
Bernard Gilkey's at-bat in the bottom of the sixth inning was a big one for Cleveland. Coming to bat with one out, a runner on 3rd and Cleveland trailing 2-1, the right fielder hit a run-scoring single.
In postgame comments to the Cleveland Today, Gilkey said, "If the effort is there, the wins will come."
Cleveland is now 25-43, while Cincinnati is 41-26.
