The Washington Senators downed the New York Mets, 9-3, at Shea Stadium. Shane Mack led the way, going 1-for-2 for Washington. Livan Hernandez was the winning pitcher. Over 8.2 innings, he allowed 3 runs on 9 hits, with 3 walks and 8 strikeouts. Washington has now won 7 games in a row.

Washington relied on the hitting of Jeff Cirillo to pick up the win. The third baseman clubbed a 2-run single in the top of the first inning to put the Senators on top, 3-0. For the game, Cirillo had 1 home run and 1 single in 4 at-bats.

"The name of the game is scoring runs," Cirillo said. "We did a good job of that today."
