Cardinals Stymie Chicago, Take 2-0 Win
Mark Portugal never let the Cubs get in a groove. The right-hander used his bread and butter, his curveball, to pitch the Cardinals to a 2-0 win. The winning pitcher was Portugal, now 4-1. He tossed 7 innings of 3-hit ball, while walking 3 and fanning 3. The 'W' lifts St. Louis's record to 35-36.

Ivan Calderon had a nice at-bat for the Cardinals with two out in the top of the third. With a runner on 1st, the first baseman hit a run-scoring double, which would prove important in the St. Louis win.

Afterward, Cardinals manager Adam Rabel was ebullient. "That was a fun game to coach," he told a group of reporters, adding, "I hope it was just as fun to watch."
