Higginson 3-4, Reds Move to 43-28
|
The Cincinnati Reds beat the Philadelphia Phillies, 9-4, at Riverfront Stadium. The Reds got a fine performance from left fielder Bobby Higginson, who captured player of the game honors. He was 3 for 4 with a home run and 2 singles. He drove in 5 runs and scored once. The second-place Reds raised their record to 43-28.
Higginson contributed a big hit, a grand slam home run, for Cincinnati in the bottom of the third. With his team trailing 2-1, Higginson took a changeup from Mark Clark and stroked the home run to right. His 24th home run of the season allowed the Reds to leap in front, 5-2.
"You've got to ride the highs and the lows in baseball in order to succeed," Higginson told the Cincinnati Gazette. "Right now I'm feeling good, but that don't mean squat for tomorrow."
