Expos Score Late to Upend Blue Jays, 5-3
|
Montreal right-hander Pedro Martinez pitched his team to victory over the Toronto Blue Jays at SkyDome. The final score was 5-3. Martinez, now 10-3, was the winner. In 7 innings, he gave up 4 hits, while striking out 12, walking 0, and allowing 3 earned runs. Ed Correa got the save, his 13th in 17 chances.
A crucial at-bat came with runners on 2nd and 3rd and two out in the top of the eighth inning. That's when first baseman Sean Casey, who is tied for 5th in the UL with a .283 batting average, hit a 2-run single. The Expos went on to win.
"Say want you want about this team, they play nine innings hard," said Montreal manager David Polakoff.
The 'W' lifts Montreal's record to 51-30.
