Charlotte Knights Ship Mathews to Cincinnati Tuesday, April 14th, 1998 It likely won't turn either team into an instant contender or provide a huge franchise shakeup, but the Charlotte Knights and Cincinnati Reds finalized a trade today. Charlotte will send 35-year-old minor league LHP Greg Mathews to the Reds, while the Knights will receive nothing. "We think this is a deal that will help out both teams and we're glad to get it done," Knights general manager Tyler Vuxta said. The trade is expected to be officially completed later today with the players joining their new ballclubs by the end of the day. In his career Mathews has a 88-87 won-lost record with a 4.45 ERA. In 308 games he has recorded 3 saves, and the 35-year-old has 929 strikeouts in 1490.2 innings. |
