Neagle Hurls Padres to Shutout Victory
Wednesday, April 22nd, 1998
Denny Neagle of the San Diego Padres spun his magic on the Baltimore Orioles today. He blanked them 7-0 on 4 hits, registering 7 strikeouts and 2 walks.
"The bottom line was I just kept the ball down," Neagle said. "My breaking stuff was down. Everything was down."
Talking to reporters in the postgame interview, San Diego skipper Matt Dodds said the team "got solid pitching, good defense and took great team at-bats in a lot of different situations."
"Denny pitched really well but this was a solid performance by everyone," he said.
Presently Neagle has a 2-3 mark in 5 starts with a 3.95 ERA. He has given up 32 hits in 41 innings, struck out 38 and issued 8 walks. Opposing clubs have compiled a .211 batting average against him.
