Vina and Magrane Fight, Suspended 4 Games Monday, April 27th, 1998 Today the league office handed out 4-game suspensions to Fernando Vina of the Reds and Joe Magrane of the Devil Rays for their roles in a benches-clearing skirmish at Riverfront Stadium yesterday. The league commissioner said in the statement to both organizations, "This league does not condone fighting and aggressive conduct on the field, thus we had to take action to discourage this behavior in the future." To date, Vina has collected 26 hits for a .292 average. He has posted no home runs, scored 14 runs and driven in 6 runs. Magrane has taken the mound for 9 relief appearances this season, nailing down no saves while notching a 0-0 record with a 4.05 ERA. The Orlando reliever has limited opposing batters to a .235 batting average. |
