Hernandez Sizzles in No-Hitter
Thursday, April 30th, 1998
Washington Senators starter Livan Hernandez came up big today at Olympic Stadium with an exceptional 7-0 outing against the Montreal Expos. Not only did he whip them, but Hernandez held them hitless, too.
"My arm was a bit sore in warmups," confessed Hernandez. "Sometimes you go out there and you're not feeling all that hot. You get into the game and all of a sudden in the seventh inning you look up and see the scoreboard and think to yourself, 'Oh, my goodness, I have a no-hitter!' You're so focused on what you're doing, it just happens."
In the course of the no-hitter, Hernandez collected 7 strikeouts and surrendered 4 walks -- a day good enough to get his name in the history books.
Presently Hernandez has a 6-0 mark in 6 starts with a 1.53 ERA. He has given up 24 hits in 47 innings, struck out 47 and issued 13 walks. Opposing clubs have compiled a .150 batting average against him.
