League Punishes Pair for Fighting
Wednesday, May 6th, 1998
Yesterday at Mile High Stadium Damion Easley and Jason Isringhausen got into each other's space and then into each other's face. They began to grapple and fell to the ground. That's when it boiled over into a full-fledged bench-clearing tussle between the Colorado Rockies and New York Mets. Reason finally prevailed as the umpires restored order. After much discussion, only the two major combatants were ejected from the game.
Today the league office notified the ballclubs that Easley will have to sit out 5 while Isringhausen would be given a 6-game suspension for their roles in the brawl.
So far this season Easley has put up a .189 batting average with 21 hits, 5 home runs and 9 RBIs.
To date this season, Isringhausen has a record of 2 wins and 3 losses and a 4.61 ERA. He has appeared in 7 games and struck out 34 in 41 innings.
