Kansas City Royals Ship Jones to Cincinnati Thursday, June 4th, 1998 Kansas City and Cincinnati have agreed in principle to a trade. The Royals will send 21-year-old CF Andruw Jones and 30-year-old 3B Hensley Meulens to the Reds for 23-year-old 3B Scott Rolen and 25-year-old CF Jay Payton. The deal is expected to be finalized shortly and the clubs will be introducing their new players to the press when the paperwork is complete. Presently Jones is batting .246 with 50 hits and 13 home runs. He has knocked in 38 runs and scored 30 times. In 58 games this season Rolen has compiled a .259 batting average with 58 hits and 11 home runs. He has also scored 43 times and knocked in 39 runs. |
