Bang-up Game: Gonzalez Slams 3 Homers
Sunday, June 14th, 1998
Colorado Rockies left fielder Juan Gonzalez had a magnificent game against the Las Vegas Angels today, rocketing three balls out of Mile High Stadium to help the Rockies take the 15-2 victory.
"I got some good pitches to hit and I creamed them," he said after the game. "The first was a big, fat fastball and the last two were hanging curves. All three were mistakes."
For the game, Gonzalez went 3-for-4 with 6 RBIs and 3 runs scored.
"There's a fine line between hitting home runs and line drives," Colorado manager Joe Gratefuldad said later. "Seems like Juan found his home run stroke today."
Juan Gonzalez hit a two-run home run off Rick Aguilera in the 1st, struck out in the 2nd, hit a three-run home run off Jose Lima in the 3rd, walked in the 5th, hit a solo-shot off Jose Lima in the 7th and walked in the 8th.
Posting a .279 batting average to date, Gonzalez has 23 home runs and 52 RBIs.
