Toronto Blue Jays Ship Perez to Chicago
Wednesday, July 29th, 1998
The Baseball News Network is reporting that Toronto and Chicago have agreed in principle to a swap that will send 28-year-old minor league LF Eduardo Perez to the Cubs with 38-year-old RF Carmelo Martinez joining the Blue Jays. Toronto general manager Jose Mata would not confirm the trade, but a team representative close to the negotiations said the deal is official and is now only awaiting approval from the league.
To date, Martinez has collected 46 hits for a .205 average. He has posted 15 home runs, scored 28 runs and driven in 32 runs.
