Toronto Trades Fajardo for Oakland's Vaughn
Wednesday, July 29th, 1998
The Toronto Blue Jays and Oakland Athletics have put the finishing touches on a deal that was weeks in the making. Toronto will part with 27-year-old minor league RHP Hector Fajardo and 24-year-old minor league 3B Tom Evans, while the Athletics have dealt 33-year-old LF Greg Vaughn and 28-year-old RHP Stan Spencer.

"This one took a while to figure out," said Toronto general manager Jose Mata. "We must have gone back to the drawing board five or six times over the past few weeks. I'm glad we finally got the deal done. I think it is a good one for both clubs."

Fajardo has appeared in 139 games and earned 1 save over his career. His ledger sheet also shows 17 wins and 14 losses and a 4.07 ERA with 349 strikeouts in 420.1 innings.

This year Vaughn is hitting .182, produced 68 RBIs and 28 home runs, scored 50 times and gotten on base at a .275 rate.
